Another URGENT C drive question with ""consolidating"!! PLEASE help!

So after about 9 hours my C drive FINALLY defragmented..if thats the correct word/tense.
The suddenly it started doing this thing called "consolidating". I had to research it up and apparently it was just "Merging all the little bits of files together". I thought it was the same thing as defragmenting but defrag is just re arranging the files together..which is confusing as I probably need some more explaining of the difference.

Anyway the URGENT question is, I let it consolidate overnight and from 1 am till 7am it only did 13%!?!?! I decided to stop it and switch it off. But do I NEED to defrag again/...which then leads on to consolidating...again? Is it dangerous if I start accessing files that have not been consolidated..or merged together? Can I play games? I cannot use my pc until I know it is safe to do so!!

P.S The current status of my C drive is 0% fragmented and the "System reserved" is 38% fragmented. Do I need to defrag the system reserved?

Solution
Hi

Hi I would run chkdsk on C: to ensure there are no ill effects .

Then if ok carry on using PC

There is probably little advantage in defragmenting modern hard disk drives.
(Do not defragment SSD)

I hope you used the defragment interface to cancel and waited until it finished work before before powering down PC.

running disk cleanup to make more free space on C: will be more beneficial than defragmenting C: especially if C: nearly full (preferably at least 20% free)

Only advantage of defragmenting is for data files where it is easier to undelete or unformat a continuous file than one with many fragments.

I ran the chkdsk on C: and there are no problems detected, thank god. It says it scanned the file system and detected no problems. Now I can carry on using my pc which is great.

I was worried that becasue I had to cancel the consolidating, it would mess up my files if I used them but that is not the case right??? Just to confirm that would be great

Yes, I cancelled the "consolidating" via the optimize drives tab.

How would I do a disk cleanup as lots of vids show different things. Is cc cleaner alright aswell??
