I am looking to build my very first gaming PC. I have very low experience on doing this although I have done some research on it. I am planning to play games such as dota2 CSGO, Batman: Arkham Knight, Fallout 4, GTA V. I am open to suggestion for my build and also glad if you could help me pick better parts.

This is my build that I am planning to build

You can do better, graphics wise, at the price of that rig. Actually, you can keep i7 performance, and squeeze in a GTX 980ti, and a 1440p monitor even.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($369.00 @ CPL Online)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($149.00 @ CPL Online)
Memory: G.Skill Sniper Gaming Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($128.00 @ IJK)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($135.00 @ CPL Online)
Storage: Toshiba 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($99.00 @ IJK)
Video Card: Palit GeForce GTX 980 Ti...
Great build with all high quality parts. Balanced and well thought out. Although it is Haswell based it will perform well. Have you considered using the new Intel Skylake CPU with a Z170 board and DDR4 memory? There was an error on your Pcpartpicker list not showing the price for the 2TB WD Black. I fixed it and changed your build link to AUD. It comes in right at $3K now with the correction.

Does the motherboard plays a big part ?
What is the difference between full tower and mid tower casing ?
What is the difference between the i7 and the Xeon you suggest me ?

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for the advice

Motherboard doesn't really play a big part. H97 is plenty for this build, and I chose one with an M.2 slot, so I could use the M.2 version of the 850 evo. Less cables = better airflow. No need for an expensive Z97 board, as the 1231v3 cannot overclock. The 1231v3 is basically an i7 4770, without the integrated graphics. Full tower cases are just bigger. I stuck with full tower, since that is what your build had. For gaming, the GPU is what matters most, after a quality PSU, as long as you have a solid CPU to keep up with it. Not a problem with that, in my build.

What does overclocking do ? and how does it benefit us ?
In your build there is no extra CPU cooling needed ?
