Need help - Board with two CPU and PSU with only one 4+4 CPU power cable

I'm building a server system, find some details below.

Board: Asus Z10PE-D16/4L (Support two CPU, I will be installing one for now)
Processor: Intel E5-2620 V3
RAM: Crucial 16GB DDR4-2133 RDIMM
PSU: Corsair RM750i

The board has one 24pin and two 8pin power plug for the two CPUs. Do I need to plug the second 8 pin CPU power cable even if I'm not going to install a second CPU? Won't the board work without that. I read the manual and searched online but there is no information on that anywhere.

Also the PSU has two PCI-E and one 4+4 CPU power plugs, since I'm not goin to install any graphics card so can I buy additional 4+4 pin CPU power cable and use it for my second CPU?

Thanks!

More about board cpu psu cpu power cable
  1. Theoretically, it should work with single CPU power sable.
If not, an option would be http://www.amazon.com/EPS12V-Motherboard-Supply-Adapter-Converter/dp/B00DU9BG60
  2. Confirmed with Corsair that I can use an additional 8 Pin 12v CPU cable for the second CPU - http://www.corsair.com/en-us/type-3-sleeved-black-eps-12v-cpu-cable

Since the PSU has got three 8pin plug on PSU side and I won't be using the other 8pin plug for any PCI-E device, so that should work.

Still not sure if I need to plug in two 8pin cable into the board even if I am planning to use one CPU.

    Thanks for the reply!

That is what I assume. The board is out for delivery, will get it in the next hour or so. I have also ordered two of those 8pin cables from Amazon as the length of one was short.
  4. No problem. Please post back the result. It would help other users.
