RAM speed/Motherboard compatibility

Long story short, I will be building my first PC soon. I put together a system on pcpartpicker and, like an idiot, relied on their compatibility filter rather than researching each component. It wasn't until after I'd ordered everything that I visited the mobo manufacturer's site and saw theyes only say the board supports DDR4 2133. I ordered 2666. My question is will it still work? If so, will it run at 2133 or get throttled even lower? Or will it not even be detected? I would REALLY prefer to not have to return anything, but if it will hamper performance, I will. Thoughts?
