Installed a 125w CPU into a 95w board and now won't boot with original CPU

I feel like i already know that the board is toast, and that I am an idiot but...wouldn't mind getting a more experienced/professional opinion on the matter.

Installed a phenom II x4 955 into this board. I made a total rookie mistake just assuming that the internet was right about what board i have and didn't actually get the numbers off the board before ordering and installing this part. I was under the assumption that it was a 125w board, obviously after getting the numbers off of it i was totally wrong. At the same time i installed 4 new sticks of RAM that were ddr2-800 instead of the OEM 667, but i think that is a moot point here.

After installing and failing to boot (HDD spins, fans light and spin, drives work etc.) in 3 tries i did my proper research and re-installed the original CPU. I tried this with the new RAM and then after that failed i realized i was probably FUBAR and i went barebones start up - 1 stick of OEM known good ram, removed GPU and display straight from mobo, PS2 keyboard and fired it up - still no boot. Pulled the cmos jumper and no boot. Pulled the bios battery and cmos jumper and no boot. All my connections are good and fully seated. I think i know what you guys are going to say after all that :(

Any ideas or confirmations would be appreciated. Not the type of post i wanted for my first post here :(

If you have a mobo rated for 95 watt, and use a 125 watt cpu, you´ll expect something to be toasted. However, usually it doesn´t go 125 watt, unless its under heavy loads. Which means you shouldnt have problems booting first time.

If you by chance get into bios, then you may be able to lower the voltage and clock speed a bit to match the values the board expects. You probably want a fan looking right down at your cpu though.

However RS780 doesn´t support 2nd gen. Phenom as far as I know.

Isn't getting to BIOS and its an OEM board. Also you are correct it does not support the x2 phenoms. Very bad mistake on my part not getting the P/N off the board.
