Hello

So, I'm trying to build my first PC and i'm looking for a budget, unlocked processor for gaming. I have 2 choices in mind either the AMD APU A10 7870k or the Pentium G3258. Both of them can be overclocked to 4.7GHz but as far as i know the A10 7870k has 4 cores which is helpful in my case. I also heard that the pentium fails in some games at high quality (I think GTA V, not really sure). I know that the A10 7870k has a built Radeon R7 (or something like that) and can play battlefield on medium settings a 30 FPS, but i want to know which of the two has more processing power and is more suitable for gaming i'm not concerned about their integrated graphics as i will be using a descrete GPU.

Thanks in Advance
Have a Good Day!

Don't buy a budget processor, because you will be replacing the PC in a couple of years.
Save up for a faster one, and your computer will last for years. Cheaper in the long run.

For example, My sons gaming PC is is 7 years old and still going strong!!! It's an AMD Phenom II Quad core with a big overclock. The processor is near to top spec for a machine of that era, but compared to modern machines it is roughly equivalent to a good Intel i3. It is still OK for gaming, but its days are numbered. If I had bought budget stuff, I would have built 3 new PCs for him by now.

A modern Core i3 definitely provides better performance in games compared to a Phenom II X4 / X6.

Yeah, because its single threaded performance is so much better. That is why my son will be getting a new PC next year. An i5 of course....
