Can a monitor be used to connect a second monitor

I just recently purchased a GTX 960 and the display adapters it has is a VGA, 3 Display ports, and 1 HDMI. The problem is my two monitors I own have one DVI and VGA slot each. So I was wondering if it is possible to have one connect to the graphics card and one connect to the other monitor, any help is much appreciated.

just use VGA from card to VGA of monitor
and HDMI from card to DVI of monitor

a HDMI-to-DVI cable is cheap on eBay and they work fine since the signals are basically the same
