Replace mSATA SSD With A 2.5" SSD In My Satellite Ultra-Portable Laptop?

Hello All,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Fusion 15 L55W-C5257 15.6" ultra-portable laptop that came with a 256 Gb mSATA (?) form factor solid state drive. (The really small drives that look like a stick of gum.)

I have an extra 2.5" 256 Gb Samsung EVO 512 Gb HD sitting here doing nothing so I thought it would be nice to upgrade the laptop's hard drive.

I opened the back of the laptop and I was able to remove the mSATA SSD and there is even what looks like a "slot" where a 2.5" drive would fit, however, there are no connectors that will plugin to my Samsung SSD and the connector for the mSATA drive is just a very small socket that it slides into.

Assuming I can find a way to mount the Samsung 2.5" SSD inside the laptop would I then need to buy some kind of adapter/cable to go from my Samsung to the mSATA slot on the board?

Thank you,

Jan

Hey there, tackyjan.

From the link in your post I see that the laptop comes with a 500GB HDD, which means that you should be able to connect an SSD to that SATA port. I'd recommend that you read through the user's manual carefully, to see if you have available HDD/SSD slot and the maximum height required for the drive (e.g. 5mm or 7mm), or better yet - get in touch with the laptop manufacturer's customer support and ask if that would be possible and if the SSD is compatible.

Hope that helps.
