Update: I found a fair deal of Asus P5Q SE motherboard that can take 4 DIMM modules and ordered that.

Now I hope the 2 Mushkin 996558 RAMs I have, the same as the one in the link below, will work perfectly with the 2 RAM modules I will order now, since I couldn't find the same modules on sale...
http://www.amazon.com/Mushkin-996558-UDIMM-PC2-6400-5-5-5-18/dp/B000XH2S9Q

Unfortunately most listings don't offer information more than the memory interface, capacity, and bandwidth... I know some memories aren't compatible with Intel cpus and cas latency, timings, and voltage differences can make a problem so I asked those to the sellers together with my system information. Do you think there's more to care for while choosing the right modules in my case ?

Update 2: I just checked the Asus P5Q SE manual, here's what a related part on memory says:

http://imageshack.us/i/p7s3xe3kp

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a 775 pin modded Xeon E5450, GTX 750 ti, and 2x2GB 667 MHz RAM on my desktop.

Asrock g31m-s page says this:

- Dual Channel DDR2 memory technology
- 2 x DDR2 DIMM slots
- Supports DDR2 800/667 non-ECC, un-buffered memory
- Max. capacity of system memory: 8GB*

*Due to the operating system limitation, the actual memory size may be less than 4GB for the reservation for system usage under Windows® XP and Windows® Vista™. For Windows® XP 64-bit and Windows® Vista™ 64-bit with 64-bit CPU, there is no such limitation.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/G31M-S/

I bought 2 Hynix 4GB DDR2 800MHZ PC2-6400U, and they're not server RAMs, they're even said to work on G31 and G41 chipsets on the listing page, but they didn't boot the system, either alone or together. I took it to a service and the man said he tried another ram but that didn't work either. He also told he didn't try 667 MHz RAM and 8GB of that might work.

crucial.com shows 800 MHz RAM in lower capacities for this dektop but the only 8GB ram crucial found was 667 MHz:

http://www.crucial.com/ProductDisplay?displayCompatibleLogo=1&urlRequestType=Base&catalogId=10151&productId=10932&externalPartNumber=CT4480197&urlLangId=-1&scanId=923707DB31D926C3&langId=-1&storeId=10151

I'd try 2x4GB 667 MHz RAM if I could find it in my country but I couldn't. If I buy from abroad and it doesn't work I'll waste money on shipping even if return is accepted, so I don't want to try that unless I'm sure it'll work.

I asked this at asrock.com but they didn't answer.

What do you think I shall try for a memory upgrade for this desktop ? Can it work some other 2x4GB 800 MHz RAM ?

I may also try a second hand mobo with a return warranty (I don't want to spend unnecessarily) if I can't upgrade memory on this mobo...

Due to Intel of G31 chipset limitation, G31M-S R2.0 support single-sided memory DIMM up to 2GB(256MB per chip).
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/G31M-S%20r2.0/
Please check whether your 4GB memory is doubled-sided or single-sided with memory vendor.

Edit: Sorry my wrong. Try to set voltage to 1.8v save in bios, and shut down the PC. Change with newer ram and see if it boots.

I think G31M-S R2.0 is a different motherboard. I installed the latest bios and I think I tried resetting the bios, even if I didn't the computer service must have tried that... Those Hynix RAM are returned so I can not try sth else myself now...

I know there are better and newer hardware but this is already enough to play most games without overclocking, and I don't want to get rid of E5450 or GTX 750 Ti.

Well sorry, cant find manual for your MB ram support. For R2.0 you could check it @ Asrock site and see what pairs you could get.
Hynix is not one of them for R2.0, i guess it will be the same for G31m-s.

To be honest at first i disagreed with Kieran, but when i saw DDR2 Prices, you can get CPU+MOBO+RAM for the money of 8G DDR2 ram, depends on what price you get it.

OK, I've searched for the mobos tested to work E5450 with a max FSB higher than 1333 here:

http://www.delidded.com/lga-771-to-775-adapter/3/

I've found an Asus P5Q SE for 31.1 USD and an Asus P5K SE for 25.92 USD. P5K SE is said to have one damaged SATA PORT. Both are said to work without problems, I think a missing back panel is not a problem. P5Q SE is already listed under return warranty, for the other the seller must be persuaded to open a listing with a return warranty.

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5Q_SE/
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5K_SE/

My case's size is 43 x 48 x 20 cm, it has 2 usb ports on front left and 4 on the back directly on the Asrock G31M-S mobo. I never tried changing or installing a mobo before but if it works without a problem, I can try that.

What do you think ?

Between those two P5Q is the better one, with less damage. You will still need to pay high price for ddr2.
Not to mention if the ram you order is Hynix again, it won't be supported.
Depends on what ram you order (in terms of $), still that's risky getting second hand.
Any other problems with p5q, is it returned (why) or just second hand ?
If you ask me honestly, wait a little, gather some money and go for DDR3 with a newer CPU, but its all your choice.

P.S. And there's always the chance that your CPU wont run at all or stable.

Edit: Just noticed your case, AROCK MB is micro atx, and both others are ATX. Whats the case model ?

My case's size is 43 x 48 x 20 cm, it has 2 usb ports on front left and 4 on the back directly on the Asrock G31M-S mobo, I don't think all 12 usb ports will be functional with a mobo like that...

Asus P5Q SE is said to be tested to work and used. It says
4 x DIMM, Max. 16 GB, DDR2 1200/1066/800/667 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel memory architecture

Can I use it with four 2GB DDR2 RAM sticks for a total of 8GB memory in dual channel ?

Yes you can, all rams marked with * on C column can be used in the four slots.

or
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5Q_SE/HelpDesk_QVL/

Still if you get 4x2G, be sure they are in a same batch or kit, else they may cause problems.

Just to ask ya, what amount of $ you are going to spend on 8gb RAM ?
Just asking, answer if you feel like it.
Be sure to check that ATX board will fit in your case.

I will first try to work my 2 Mushkin 996558 RAMs, the same as in the link below, with the 2 modules I will order now, since I couldn't find the same modules on sale...

http://www.amazon.com/Mushkin-996558-UDIMM-PC2-6400-5-5-5-18/dp/B000XH2S9Q

If that doesn't work, I think I can find 4 of the same 2GB modules for 50-60 USD...

Unfortunately most listings don't offer information more than the memory interface, capacity, and bandwidth... I know some memories aren't compatible with Intel cpus and cas latency, timings, and voltage differences can make a problem so I asked those to the sellers together with my system information. News, I got that Asus P5Q SE, and ordered 2 KVR800D2N5/2G whose specs are the same as the 2 Mushkin sticks I had but got 2 KVR800D2N6/2G instead (poor seller). Now it's at a computer service, but it's obvious that they are not master at their job.

I will overclock the cpu and I know the cpu fan I had won't be enough, can you suggest an economic product to keep my cpu cool enough ? I don't want sth excessively fancy...

Some products are hard to find here, so these are the brands sorted by the number of choices from each that I see:

Cooler Master
Deep Cool
Thermaltake
Xigmatek
Zalman
Akasa
Noctua
Corsair
Evercool
Antec
