Welcome to the community, IvyDrag!

I'm really sorry to hear about your WD Elements issues. :( I'd strongly recommend you to use WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics for Windows to test the drive!
Here's a link to the WD Software: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=KiyQy4
Make sure you run both the QUICK and the EXTENDED tests, it will help us determine the health and SMART data status of the HDD.

Another thing you should try is using a different USB cable to connect the WD Elements with. Have you tried using it on another computer as well?

Keep me posted with the troubleshooting!

This is very unfortunate, IvyDrag!

It seems like your external WD Elements got damaged! :( I'd advise you to contact one of our data recovery partners, if you don't have a backup of the data stored on the external HDD. Here's a link to the companies worldwide: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=xCWF0R
I'd also recommend you to check the warranty on your WD Elements here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=UBesXL
If it's still covered, you should contact our customer support and send an RMA request to get a replacement.

If it's out of warranty, please let me know, so we can try a couple of other troubleshooting solutions!
