Hello. I am currently planning to build a med-high end gaming rig this Christmas. I've already planned this rig:

CPU: Intel Core i3 - 3220 3.3GHz
Mobo: ASRock H61M-VG4 1155
GPU: MSI Geforce GT 730 inno3d 1GB DDR5
RAM: Kingston 4GB PC1600 (I'm buying two for a total of 8GB RAM)

The CPU and Mobo are actually bundled for a low price! Anyways, how well would this gaming rig do for med-high end? I'm planning to play games like:
Dota 2 Reborn, CS:GO, LoL, Killing Floor 2, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, and Left for Dead 1 & 2.

If you have any suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them. Thanks in advance!

Amazon Prices:

Used i5 2500k $152.00
New i5 2500k $285.99
New i3 3220 $122.50

Pros 2500k:
- overclocking ability (2500k oc very well)
- double L3 cache
- obviously much faster
- 4 cores
- newer tech
- 2½ less power consumption - 10-30+ bucks saved a year depending on how much you use your pc
- more futureproof

I'm not really spending a lot on this rig since I'm not really an ultra-graphics gamer, but just a casual one on the games I've listed. The i5 has a really big price jump from the i3, and the lower versions are still dual-cores but with no HT.

I actually forgot to say this but, a local shop in my area sells the i3-3220 bundled with the motherboard for 115$. Sure I might go around and buy an i5 and another board, but as said, I'm on a really tight budget. I'm also not a fan of overclocking. I really don't want to risk $120+ down the drain if something goes wrong.

Quick question:
The i3 is a dual core with hyperthreading, right? And the i5 has 4 physical cores. Aren't they similar? I've heard that 2core HT = 4 cores no HT.

yeah, but most quadcores today support hyperthreading. And a true quadcore will almost always perform better than a hyperthreaded dualcore

Tbh it's not the greatest build, and once you start playing killing floor and other games you will most likely want to get into newer games. The GPU won't run almost any new game and if it does it will do it on the lowest settings at a lower resolution too. The cpu would also be insanely taxed on newer games. Save your money a little longer and buy a better build. In the long run you'll save yourself time and a lot of money when you realize that this build is limited in time and ability. My moto when i was buying my pc is spend the money now so you don't have to risk spending double later, and if you don't do that you won't have a pc at all.
