Fallout 4 Very low fps on high end specs

Hi !

So i have a r9 290 and fx 8350 and 8gb of ram but i am getting about 24 fps in the game with the game at ultra with godrays at medium.
i am running at 2560x1080 and i am experiencing no spikes but a constant 24 fps which is way to low for these specs, but is this a cpu issue or a AMD optimization problem? since a r9 290 should not have 24 fps with dips to 19 in fallout 4....

well one thing would be to monitor your cpu and gpu usage while playing and see what %'s they hit.

whoops forgot to say my cpu at average 45% and gpu max 60% but sometimes even 0%
and gpu mhz going to 800mhz instead of the 970 stock

Lower your resolution to 1920x1080. Also update your drivers and check that god lighting and other unneeded graphical clutter are turned off. Your FPS will increase and you'll be fine.

Monitor vram and ram usage new games usually have memory leaks if thats the problem than it will be dealt with soon like in black ops 3

Go to the AMD Catalyst Control, and make sure a thing called "Tesselation" is turned down quite a bit. A lot of AMD users report that that is causing a lot of lag.

i will try but a quick update when i change any setting which has to do with the gpu it doesn't affect fps so i think my cpu is the problem

You cores aren't even at near half, not the CPU. My roomies been playing since last night with an older 6-core Phenon AMD and a 280X at near ultra without issues

thats the problem, fallout doesn't for some reason utilize them, also i just tried diabling 5 cores of my 8 and no fps change at all !!

It's not that it's not using them. Games don't usually use all the CPU, if they do, you have a CPU bottleneck. I have an 8-core 8320 and never has a game maxed it out, always my GPU first. Your GPU should be maxed in any game unless you are using vsync and limiting the frame rate, otherwise the game will always try to push out as many frames as possible, and thus max out the GPU.

Use this and than install drivers again?
Maybe use malwarebytes and check for malware?

already checked on malware but no other game has problems anyway.
and drivers il try later since ive got some work to do.

also people are saying you need high IPC on the cpu to run it which the FX 8350 is shit at so a quick side note.

Dont be so sure :/
Im on the nvidia+intel side i7 6700k + gtx 970 i havent tried fallout 4 but i cant play black ops 3 in 1440x900 medium settings :/ (im getting like 5-10fps)
I would say we need to wait for updates your cpu is not that bad
It should not not need more trust me
