I've been configuring my own home wireless networks for 10+ years with no issues and finally today, I am stumped.

I've had a d-link DIR-825 dual band router that I've had for maybe 3-4 years and has been awesome. Zero problems with it. 2 weeks ago I installed a D-Link Xtreme-N Duo Wireless Bridge/Access Point (DAP-1522) that I've had around for a while. I put it downstairs, as my router is upstairs in the bonus room. We never really had connectivity issues around the house even without the access point but I wanted the strongest signal possible so I installed one anyways. It's hard-wired cat5 to the router in AP mode. Zero issues for 2 weeks. Connection was stronger and faster.

So last night my wife and I couldn't get on the wifi from our devices. I went up and did my typical check my pc for internet and make sure i had internet, check. Opened up the router IP page, check. I look down at my phone and I still dont have wifi... just stuck at "obtaining IP address." It was able to find the network easily, strong signal, but not connect? That was the same with all devices. I look at the router and the wifi light is on and blue - so all should have been good. PC internet (hard wired) was blazing fast (fiber, gigabit through North State, btw).

So how come I can find the wifi and have strong signal, but I can't get it to actually connect?

Also, I have a roku that I have hard wired to the access point and it could find the connection but it "couldn't find the home network" or something.

I did the typical turn everything off, unplug the router and let sit for 2 minutes, plug it back in and wait 5 mins or so, then started turning devices on. Same thing though. But after I did that I said screw it and just watched tv. Kept checking my phone and it was "obtaining IP address." Then after a couple hours I decided to go back upstairs and work on it. Sat down and looked at my phone, same thing. Then after checking to make sure the internet work on my PC (which it did), I looked at my phone and it was connected to the wifi and working fine.

Anybody have any ideas? Maybe my router is going bad?

I don't know what you mean by a different channel. It does have the same SSID which is done by setting it up in access point mode. I just have to click the route WPS button, then run downstairs and click the WPS button on the AP. Every time I've done that it works. I didn't do anything different this time.

The AP is hard wired cat5 upstairs to the router.

Could I be messing this process up, and the AP is actually interfering with my wifi now? Is there a way I can check this?
