I have Cat5e ports all around my house and I know where they lead to, however when I connect my computer into any of them I don't get a connection. My modem is located in my office and directly connects to the wall via telephone connection and cable connection, then threads into my router. The router is what my computer is plugged into currently. The place where all of the ports lead to is a jumbled mess and I can't seem to make sense of it. I am quite the noob when it comes to networking so go easy on me. All I want to know is what I need to do to make the ports work. I will post pictures when I get home today.

If it's all loose wires with no cat5 ends on them, then you'll need a patch panel and possibly some kind of switch. So many people post on here with homes wired for cat5 but it seems the previous owners just rip out everything when they leave and it makes a huge mess for someone moving in.

I ever buy a house that's wired, it's written into the signing agreement that that stuff stays as is. People do it for everything to AC's to appliances, etc. Networking needs to be included.
