Should i make the switch to full time pc gaming over Xbox with friends?

Hi guys,
So I've been pretty torn about this decision for a while. Black Friday is coming up soon and I've been looking to possibly upgrade my Xbox 360 to an Xbox One. The only thing that is keeping me from buying it is playing full time PC which I'm doing more than console lately. Now with Black Ops 3 out, all of my friends are buying it for either the One or the 360 (mostly the 360 since they don't have Ones but shouldn't be a problem for me due to upcoming backwards compatibility) which I almost don't prefer to play on but would only do so just to play with them. I'm wondering, should I pretty much dump my friends on Xbox and move to full PC gaming (where I have few friends but not most of them) or buy a new Xbox and stay connected with them although it would cost more out of my pocket? It sucks since I'll be off to college next year and the only way I can connect with them is over Xbox 360 as of now. It would be a lot easier if they were moving over to PC like me but it's not looking like any time soon. Just looking for some possible suggestions on what I should do. Thanks!

Edit: I'll also say this, I don't see myself buying many new games for the Xbox One if I get but rather playing my old games through BC. As for PC, I prefer keyboard and mouse so if Windows 10 streaming provided support in games for them on Xbox Live streaming, I would probably sway more towards buying a One and continuing Live membership.

I would personally move to PC gaming. With the friends issue, PC has the largest community so if needed you could gather a large sum of people who are willing to play games. You would also save a lot of money on buying games, because of the massive sales, and also you wont have to pay that membership fee. I am a "hardcore" PC gamer, but still own a PS4 that i like to play some of my old favourite games on. Maybe if you even show your friends who play console how good PC gaming is, they might change to PC.

+ PCMasterRace ;)

Overall, it is your choice but in my opinion i would go with PC gaming :)

Spending money on pc vs on console, gives you more benefits. A pc is not just used for gaming.
Personally at my home, we use the pc for gaming, work, school, personal correspondance, general browsing, tv and sound system.

It´s just more logical to invest in your pc, if your on a budget.

I went from PC to Last Gen. Console and back to PC this Gen. So I'll give you my $.02 on the subject. First off I gamed a lot with friends on the Xbox 360....I mean A LOT. On the PC? Never. Well maybe once in a great while. While I miss gaming with my Xbox friends it's not such a big deal because my gaming time has become significantly lessened in the last few years since graduating, buying a home and raising a child. But the main reason I don't game with friends on PC, besides most of them being console die hards, is that gaming with friends on the PC is a lot more difficult than it is on the Xbox. On the Xbox I could check my friends list from within a game, send an invite and wait a few seconds and we were in the game chatting and playing. Sometimes we'd form parties through Xbox Live but most of the time we just used the in game chat system. On the PC me and a friend both have Boarderlands 2 on Steam and it's our go to co-op game when we're bored. We have yet to be able to get the in game voice chat to work right and have to rely on a 3rd party program running in the background in order to talk to each other and even that is sketchy due to latency issues with our respective wifi setups. Same thing with Planetside 2; I still can't get my mic to work in the game after 2 years of playing. I'm not saying gaming with friends isn't possible on the PC or even all that hard to do as long as you're all willing to put some extra effort in the preparation but I AM saying it's a lot bigger pain in the butt than the simple, clean way consoles do multi-player experiences. And good luck convincing your friends to invest in a gaming PC; especially if they're heavily invested in their consoles. I'd also be sure to check if backward compatibility also works for multi-player. Can an Xbox One Gamer using Gears of War whatever play the same game with his friend who's on a 360?

With all that said though I prefer gaming on the PC far and above console. Better games, more variety (try finding a 4x strategy game on a PS4) and lower game prices. I just miss gaming with friends. A little.

*edit* Oh yeah, I sort of miss kicking back on the couch while playing a game too. Again you can do that with a PC but again it takes a little more effort, and possibly some cash, to set up a PC in you're living room. And depending on how you do it you're probably not going to be typing term papers from your couch.

So you are going to get black ops for the 360 and play it on the one? Have your cheap friends get with the program man. Buy it for the One.

My thought is do both if you can afford it. Thats what I do. I play Halo with my xbox one friends and play games like fallout on my PC. Also with xbox party chat on windows 10 you can still stay connected with them.

Also the Xbox One works great as a media setup for me. Got my tv passing through it and I also use it for Netflix and youtube.

I totally agree and would rather be on PC because it's just all around a better experience for less money. I know they have a few games for pc but nothing major. I probably shouldn't let them be the main reason I play console if I'd rather be playing PC instead. I also probably wouldn't consider buying a One if my 360 wasn't such a piece of junk. Thanks for the input.

I've always gamed on a PC so don't have much experience gaming on console; however, one thing I might add is that the playerbases for Call of Duty games have much bigger populations on console rather than PC.

You may as a solution consider getting a PC and buying Black Ops 3 on Xbox 360. (Play Bo3 with friends and your other games on PC).

Hope this helps!

Yeah, I'm definitely in the same boat and am moving more and more away from xbox lately. I do miss it time to time but most friends I even played with haven't even renewed their live memberships yet. And that's another thing that's been driving me away is all these extra costs here and there while things like steam are straight forward. As for that question for backwards compatibility and multiplayer, it's something they're looking into but hasn't happened yet and I think that might be due to some of the publishers. I wouldn't have as big of a problem if Black Ops 3 for xbox One could play the same game with 360. I don't know of any games that currently do that. Anyways, thanks for sharing. It's nice to hear some different opinions.

I felt the same way lol. It's such a bad situation that I would rather not buy the game than get it for 360. You can almost tell that last gen has been dying. But the current gen consoles have already been out for 2 years and almost none of my friends have upgraded. Most of my friends who didn't upgrade aren't even on live anymore. Maybe consoles in general are kind of dying out but I do agree with you on the media factor which is always nice to have. I do hope in the end I can afford both but the only thing really holding me back is how much I'll use it. Right now, I hardly play on my 360 anymore and find myself playing PC. I'm thinking I might only have like 5 Xbox One games max and use the backwards compatibility from time to time for my 360 games. I do look forward to the new windows 10 streaming and where they might take that, so if there's a really good deal for the One or even if I can trade in for a good price I'll probably bite.
