Here is a reddit link to my post if that helps anyone http://

So for probably the past 6 or 7 months i've had extreme problems with my internet. Massive ping spikes that last long amounts of time. Example 1 Speed Test This happens whether someone is on the internet aswell or if no one is on it or im connected directly to the modem.

I have tested multiple computers connected to the router via ethernet cable and connected directly to the modem via ethernet cable and still the problem occurred. This happens in the later half of the afternoon around 430pm central time and onwards till about 11 if I'm lucky. I have contacted my ISP about this at least 6 or 7 times. They have sent people out to service our house twice free of charge. The first time they replaced the modem saying the one we had was old and they were already in the process of replacing them. The second they replaced the cabling connected from where it enters our home into the modem and after all that I still have the same problem. on the second visit the guy said it was weird because we had one of the biggest hubs in city for non-business use. So i really need help. I have asked about changing ISP but my dad doesnt want to go through the process of having our yard dug up again.

Also i get normal speeds for what we pay for. I have reset my router settings multiple times I have done everything I could think of Please offer an ideas or help you can

Last thing any questions will be answered im just looking for help please dont be rude. Thanks in advance

TLDR; High ping, no idea why still after abunch of fixes.

Krizma,

Noted your posting and I also read through the reddit link.

Could be a load/traffic problem as some of the responses indicated.

My suggestion is that you do some additional testing via tracert, pathping, etc.. Document the problem as much as you can and (I also agree) don't do the gaming issue with the ISP. Focus on it as an internet problem.

Also, as a side note, around here (eastern DC suburbs) the ISP providers rarely "dig up the yard". If a cable replacement is needed they first lay a bright orange temporary coax cable from the nearest box to the residence and leave the cable on the ground surface, along street curb gutters, and strung through bushes/trees. Sometimes with duct tape holding it down where the cable...

Sometimes with duct tape holding it down where the cable crosses sidewalks. Can go for 100 feet +. Then a couple of subcontracted guys show up a few days later and use a very flat bladed shovel to wedge up the sod to make about a 6" deep, if that much, angled trench. They drop in the new cable and stomp it down. For sidewalk crossings they scrape out an expansion joint and pack the cable down inside.

May leave a brown dry grass line for a few days but that goes away quickly if there is rain or watering. And you can often see old cables partially exposed in many yards indicating that the old cables are seldom removed.

Meaning: If you are lucky enough to have a choice of ISP's and can get better service you may have some leverage. Use it and change providers if your current provider cannot or will not fix things. I would be quite surprised if there is any real digging up the yard as would happen for plumbing problems.
