Hi guys! I have a Lenovo Ideapad that apparently broke up with the internet yesterday. It recognizes that it is connected to a network (wired or wireless), but cannot open a website. Other computers and devices in the house are working just fine on the network. It's strange because I was on the internet, turned the computer off, came back roughly an hour and a half later, turned the computer on, and suddenly no internet.

Can anyone out there help? Thanks!

From the information we have. I would suggest it sounds like a DNS issue. If you could still ping websites then it means you were connected to the internet. When this is the case and you can't access web browsers it is normally for one of three reasons. Your DNS settings have been changed, Your Proxy settings have been changed or your DNS server is down although unlikely.

DNS settings and Proxy settings should not change by them selves. Perhaps you installed something recently that could have forced the changes? Perhaps it was malware that had changed your DNS settings. Either way a clean install seems to have solved your issue and if it was in fact malware that had changed your proxy/dns setting then a clean install will have erased...

I've tried power cycling the modem and router, but no luck. I'm suspicious that the problem is with my computer since the rest of our computers and devices can connect and access the internet just fine.

Joe Porter, I will try that as soon as I get home. Thanks!!
