I'm planning on building a computer with the upcoming Black Friday/ cyber Monday deals. I want to get a 1440p 144Hz monitor for playing games like LoL, CSGO, and a some battlefield 4. I have an old 1080p 60Hz monitor lying around and was wondering if a GTX 970 will be enough to run both monitors. The second monitor is not for gaming but for extra workspace for music control, Skype, Internet, ect... I realize I won't be able to run battlefield 4 in 1440p 144Hz on ultra but how far can I go on the other games and is the GTX 970's 3.5GB of VRam is enough for both 1440p @144Hz and a 1080p @60Hz.

It will run both monitors fine, but I don't think you can have them on different refresh rates. Also there are many times that games running on a dual monitor system slow down a lot when ran on one monitor and the second monitor is used for somethign else.

you can run them at different refresh rates with out issue and it is extremely unlikely you will have issues with game slowing down as 2d desktop applications are not overly GPU intensive.

If you get an Intel CPU you also have the option of using its built in GPU for your secondary monitor and this all becomes a non-issue

you would need two 970's to run a single 1440p monitor and that would barely do ~100 fps on ultra 2x MSAA in BF4

So high/ultra settings gtx 970 sli should be enough to take advantage of the 1440p 144hz monitor

csgo a single 970 would be more than enough

of course this is with a proper cpu driving them
