Windows 7 does not have an IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service - that was in Windows XP.
In Windows 7 it's function is performed by a DLL instead.
You may be using old burning software designed for XP. Switch to something designed for Windows 7 (eg Nero Burning ROM) or use Windows 7's built-in disc-burning feature.
"Disruption to final copy" (whatever that means) is somewhat vague. Couldn't you be more specific?
Try reducing burning speed (especially with DVDs).
Finally, optical drive may be faulty, try a new one or borrow one to test that possibility.
