Hi all.

I have an A.C. Ryan Playon!DVR
http://www.trustedreviews.com/A-C-Ryan-Playon-DVR-HD-review
I have had this for many years, it is a DVR and many other things, it's main function now due to poor firmwares is a media player and a NAS, the problem I am looking to fix is how do I protect a folder from other users of the network, it runs a form of Linux coded up specifically for the thing, the NAS functionality is open security with no control from within the OS/Firmware, I'd like to password protect a folder that I keep my stuff in, everything else can be accesses by others, all control over the folders and files is open to any one on the network, whether using Linux Windows or Mac and control and changes only be made remotely by any Personal Computer that has access to the network whether Cabled or Wireless, tried Wise Folder Hider which stated it cannot make changes to remote folders.

I use Linux Lite, Zoran Lite, Windows 7 and 10 sometimes.

Any help appreciated.

Jay

If the remote (NAS) OS cannot provide for access control, there is nothing you can do locally. Store your sensitive stuff in password-protected ZIP files, or create an encrypted volume (eg TrueCrypt) on the NAS, and install a client to mount that volume when you need it.
