My current set up is

Motherboard - MSI P67A-GD53
CPU - i5 2500k (lazily overclocked with mobo OC genie button)
CPU Cooler - Arctic Freezer (Cant for the life of my remember what kind)
GPU - GTX 970
RAM - 8 GB DDR3 1600mhz
Case - Cooler Master HAF 912
PSU - Coolermaster 700w

I was considering getting

ASUS Maximus Ranger or Hero
i5 6600k or i7 6700k
A new case, perhaps Corsair 780t or Cooler Master Cosmos SE
Some form of liquid CPU Cooler, like the H series or Kraken
Some DDR4 RAM, I was looking at 16gb but read its pointless and 8 is enough.

I've come into some money (got an old deposit back from a swindling letting agent) and I'm jonesing for an upgrade. However I haven't decided if I'm just being silly. Money isn't really the issue, I'm going to be paying by Scans monthly payment as I don't want it all to come out at once but I can afford it easily.

Is it worth it? I mainly game and I can play things on high graphics on 1920x1080 but I get annoying stutters. I have considered simply buying another GTX 970, I've never done SLI before however.

I was planning (if at all) to do this soon but I gather with Black Friday and Cyber Monday coming it up, it might be smarter to hold on a bit.

Thanks in advance!

Definitely wait since black Friday is just around the corner. However the stuttering is most likely some thermal throttling coming into play since the 970 is a very powerful card and the 2500k despite it being several generations old is still a very capable CPU. Another 970 is only more likely to cause more stuttering issues if not setup correctly eventhough the raw FPS would be higher.
Check your temps and see if anything is wrong. The CPU, MOBO etc is the better option IMO since the 970 will be good for maxing or near maxing out all games for a year or two and your current CPU is a little dated.
