Hey,
A very strange thing happened to me. Recently , I got my PC upgraded (Hard disk also). When i got it back Windows 8 was loaded in it but there were many problems (will post a different thread for that). One of the problem was that i was unable to access my files which came from the previous HDD. I ended up formatting the windows & installed Win-7 on it. But even after that the problem was not completely resolved. The folder icons which i changed previously were not displaying still. Deleting thumbnail cache also didn't help. Stupidly, what i thought of doing was to delete all the folders in my drive to recycle bin & restoring them back. I selected all folders & deleted them through the delete option in the right-click context menu. suddenly while deleting those folders, windows showed a dialog box for the confirmation on deleting some 'desktop.ini' file & some other file as well. I continued. Then i went to the recycle bin folder & VOILA, out of 7 folders only 5 were there. 2 folders in which i had stored my movies & songs resp. were gone. Even the space occupied by them. Now i am left with only option of recovering the files with some software, but to less success i am not able to completely recover those files.
Is there any other solution for this now or i just have to spend money on recovery softwares.

You don't necessarily have to spend any money as quite a few file recovery utilities are freeware:

Wise Data Recovery: http://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-data-recovery.html?__c=1

Piriform Recuva: http://filehippo.com/download_recuva/

FreeUndelete: http://www.officerecovery.com/freeundelete/

Glary Undelete: http://www.techradar.com/news/software/applications/best-free-recovery-software-1141256/2

You should have kept your data backed up on at least one additional hard drive, then you wouldn't have this problem in the first place. Storing your data on a single drive is just asking for trouble. All hard drives fail eventually, and when that happens your data is gone forever if you didn't save it somewhere else for safety.
