I've purchased parts for a home made pc and it doesn't seem to even get to the bios; the fans spin for about half a second then power seems to cut.
I've tried a different case , power supply (850w/400w), graphics and sound card and even with only the bare minimum requirements.

The parts are:
Asus z170 pro gaming
intel i7 4790k
geforce gtx 960
2x vengeance LPX 8GB
XFX pro 850w
xonar phoebus 7.1 gaming sound card set

I would like to know if anything is incompatible, as i have tried multiple variations of what goes where.

Solution
REMOVE THAT CPU FROM THE MOTHERBOARD IMMEDIATELY!!!!

That CPU is a 4th Gen. Haswell one that should be used with socket 1150 (LGA 1150.) motherboard. The common chipsets for these motherboards are Z97, H97, H81, and B85.

Your motherboard has a socket which is LGA 1151; this only works with 6th Gen. SkyLake CPUs!!! It is incompatible with the i7 4790K. LGA 1151 motherboards typically have Z170, H170, H110 and B150 chipsets.

Again, that CPU is incompatible with the motherboard! Remove it immediately, or else you may cause damage to the CPU (If it isn't damaged already, which is quite likely, unfortunately.).

I'm sorry if this post is a bit blunt, but I just don't want you...

I'm sorry if this post is a bit blunt, but I just don't want you to ruin an expensive CPU like the 4790k. To use that CPU, you will need a motherboard that has a Z97 / H97 chipset, depending on whether you will be overclocking or not.
