Internet works on all devices in the house but it's sometimes very slow/not working on my desktop

Hello, I have an issue that I've been dealing with for quite some time and never tackled it fully since it tends to just pop up and then fix itself after a couple of hours/day or two.

Anyway, internet on my desktop PC sometimes just randomly drops to 1% of the speed, ping gets really unstable (I'll get anywhere from 200ish to a couple of thousand while connected on a mumble server, it goes all over the place) and there's often high packet loss. I have no idea what's causing it. Around 2 weeks ago, it got really bad and I thought the only possible cause is my USB wireless adapter (airlive brand), so I went to the store and bought a pair of powerline adapters (d link dhp 309av). After a bit of struggle (I forgot I didn't have lan drivers installed) I got it working and sure enough the issue was gone. And now it's back again and I can barely open web pages, speedtest.net sometimes doesnt even want to open and when it does it usually shows a download of anywhere from 0.01mbps to 0.5 (generally all over the place though). For some reason I used to be able to open a stream and watch it without issues but anything else would lagg.

Wifi works just fine on my brothers laptop, tablets, phones but neither Wifi or the powerline connectiong is working properly on my desktop atm.

So please help me fix this, if anyone has had experience with something like this or has good suggestions I'll try it out. It's becoming really frustrating.

Sry if I'm wrong here but isn't NIC a part of my motherboard. Anyway if it is I did update the network drivers ~2 weeks ago when I got my powerline adapters so it should be updated. Also would that really be a problem since my connection doesn't work(well it barely works) using wifi and wired connection. This is under my network->adapter system information http://prntscr.com/92mmlg if it helps in anyway.

I went to sleep yesterday since there were no responses, it still doesn't work properly at the moment. Could this issue be related to my router in any way? I'm just out of ideas.

ipconfig /all -> http://prntscr.com/92uo05

route print -> http://prntscr.com/92uo94

Network adapter: http://prntscr.com/92mmlg

I've tried quite a few things today with a buddy of mine. Unistalled all amd drivers since there were some problems regarding amd quicksync/quickstream not really sure anymore tbh (which I probably didnt have installed in the 1st place but still), I ran some malware checks with malwarebytes, tried doing nslookup which failed as you can see here (http://prntscr.com/92mxfb). Changed DNS to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 as recommended on another forum but that didn't fix it, removing ipv6 did. Anyways the DNS problem probably isn't related to what I'm actually trying to fix. I also tried running windows in safe mode with networking and issues were still persistent. There were a couple of times where my speedtest would show normal results but when I tried to play CS during those times I would quickly get huge ping spikes of up to 500-2k.

Still looking for a solution... Thanks

ok so I'm guessing by ping the router you mean pinging my own ip adress. these are the results http://prntscr.com/92uvjx

I scribbled over the ip since I think it's one of the rules on the forum. Hope that helps.

Ok so, firstly, your router (which acts as DHCP and DNS as well) in 192.168.1.1, to ping it:

> ping 192.168.1.1

Although I have a few qustions, the Hamcachi adapter -I am assuming is your Wi-Fi adapter- is on a completely different network from your router. (the 192.168.1.0 network with a 255.255.255.0 mask.

The hamachi adapter has a "Public" IP address of 25.5.244.152. This range of "Public addresses are ones that can be "routed" on the internet. This adapter is receiving the IP address from another DHCP server -other than your router.

These addresses are usually assigned to your modem from the ISP... can you explain this adapter a bit more and if it is in fact your wifi adapter.

Main cause of slowdown is that you have 2 different "default gateways" configured on one machine.The NIC is correct and has the router set as default gateway 192.168.1.1. The Himachi adapter is set to 25.0.0.1 on a different network...

This is the cause of your slowdowns. Now we just have to figure out why/where the Hamchi adapter is getting this 25.0.0.1 address from.

You can always set a static IP address for the adapter so it is in the same network as the NIC ( 192.168.1.2 -192.168.1.254) -or get the Hamachi adapter to get its settings from the DHCP on router, not from wherever it is getting it from. It seems like it is getting one from your ISP somehow..

Go to a browser and go to ipchicken.com -tell me the IP address it tells you.

hey I will go over everything in a message in just a few minutes. Just wanted to say the hamachi is from this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LogMeIn_Hamachi . It's a software I've used in the past (I dont think I've used it in over a year) to play some games with friends

this is the ping 192.168.1.1 http://prntscr.com/92v2ez

ipchiken gives me this ip 78.1.81.179 It's the same I've got on whatsmyip and you can see the pings to it in a reply above. I originally hid the ip since I thought it was against some rule.

Hmm. Okay, try using each adapter indepently. Unplug patch cord and just have wifi- and then unplug wifi/tun off and just have the NIC up. Is there a difference?

Just to clarify, everything I've done to this point was only using my wired connection. I've only tried the wireless for a couple of min before to make sure thats not the problem. Tried using only the wireless now once again and the problem seems to be the same/very similar. Took me a while to even connect to the speedtest server and then my ping was slightly higher than usual and my download was very slow. Seems to be the same.

EDIT: to be even more clear, my usb wifi adapter wasn't even plugged in besides those few minutes.

I've used the removal tool to remove hamachi. rebooted and did the steps but unfortunately internet still seems to be bad.

new ipconfig http://prntscr.com/92vocq

Sorry for the late response. I had to play catch up on the thread. There are few things that can be consider the culprit. The NIC, powerline adapters, or even the LAN port on the router. Depending on the location of the router, can you run a patch cable from your PC to your router and see if the problem still exist? Also, have you tried installing and using a second NIC?

Hmmm, agreeing with PsiReaper's deduction - Can you run a patch cable directly from the modem to your PC? Cutting the router out of the picture.

If you can successfully ping the loopback of your NIC...

> ping 127.0.0.1

...Without packet loss/bad ping then your NIC is functioning.

Double check that the speed is set to "Auto Negotiation" in the NIC properties under "configure"

If this all checks out, and you are still getting slow speed with the direct connection to the modem -it's either the patch cord (unlikely) or probably the modem. This is the ISP's responsibility (most places), and would mean a replacement/calling them up for a replacement/fix.
