Hi all,

I am building my own system for the first time which will be used for gaming. I will NOT be upgrading it for the next 6-7 years so with that in mind please go over my PC part picker list and let me know if i should change anything.

Please also do note that i want to stick with 120 GB SSD.

For graphics card, I cannot decide between MSI R9 380 or MSI GTX 970. I plan on playing on a single monitor, 1080P. If you guys suggest the GTX 970, which one should i get? I heard EVGA has the best performance.

I also had a hard time deciding between 4790k or 6700k and went with the latter, thinking that it will probably last 6-7 years. The cost difference between the two builds (4790k and 6700k) is a bit more than $100 so that is not a problem. Which ever the case may be, i will OC it to no more than 4.3 - 4.4 Ghz

I would like to thank everyone who read this and gave suggestions to help me out!

Kind regards,

Hi. With all the dough you're spending on the system, is there a reason why you are sticking to 120GB SSD? Games are getting larger. By all means, I would at least go for 256GB SSD to be 'future proof' for at least a couple of years. I'm running a Samsung 256GB SSD, and even that I'm running out. I would think that in 6-7 years, your SSD may go through at least 4 Microsoft OSes and you may end up reformatting rather than upgrading. Eventually all these would decrease the life of your SSD.

Running a GTX 970 on a single monitor is like placing a V8 Engine in a Toyota Prius! It deserves better!

P.S. I bought a Geforce 8800 GTX years back and it hardly lasted 2 years...

Cooler Master HAF 912 $54.98
EVGA SuperNOVA 850 80+ Platinum 850 W Full $164.98

Switched priorities around. Sweet power comes first especially for the long haul.

I'd stay with the R9 390 because of DX12.
