Stuck Between a Better PC for Gaming or a PS4 With Games

So my dilemma here is that I'm in sort of a libmo between deciding whether I should get a PC which will run stuff better than my current one or getting a PS4. Specs will be as follows:

Fractal Design Define R4 (blackout)
AsRock Z97 Fatal1ty ATX Motherboard
Intel Core i5 4460 CPU
Thermalright True Spirit 90 CPU Cooler
HyperX Fury Red 8GB (4x2) RAM
EVGA GTX 750ti SC GPU
SEASONIC m12ii 500w PSU
Toshiba 1TB HDD

And the PS4 would just be the 500gb CUH-1200 model with Bloodborne, Witcher 3 and MGS V: Phantom Pain.

So, anyone who can sympathise with my difficulty and offer some help would be much appreciated since we grow ever near to the holidays. And I know that a PC would be of more value but I really want Bloodborne and other exclusives from the PS4.

Cheers, x
- Jolly

Solution
In the long run a PS4 would be a better choice. PS3 lasted for 9 years. That's 9 years of never having to worry about hardware, just buy the game. PS offers free games for their consoles, and have been for a few years now. You get two free games per month, selected by Sony, provided you have a PS Plus membership. Fallout 4 did introduce modding to consoles (assuming it's a thing now), and if they do/did a good job, then other companies are going to be supporting this as well.

On the PC side you have far more options in terms of resolution, display setup, mods, way more titles (though apart from big moba games and select indie titles console and PC are about even in quality of games). However, there are cheap games, but not entirely...

No, there's some confusion, that's the system I would be going for. My current system contains:
AMD A4 5300 CPU
Gigabyte F2A55M-DS2 MATX Motherboard
1 single 8gb stick of RAM (Don't know the brand)
That CPU cooler (which I'll salvage from this system)
The EVGA GTX 750ti (also salvageable)
Toshiba 1TB HDD (has all my stuff on and will be using it)
A crappy 3rd party 400W PSU

Yeah :/

Round about £300 - £400.

And I spend all of my game time on a computer since I don't own any other console. But my main motivation for the PS4 are the exclusives, particularly Bloodborne since I'm a big fan of FromSoftware and Dark Souls related games.

Yet if I did get a PS4, I'd have a much more minimized library in comparisson to my Steam Library.

So I know deep down, the PC is a better option. (And I've dedicated a lot of time to picking parts and readng/watching reviews, how to builds computers etc.)

It may sound stupid how I'd think of passing up the option of a PC considering the amount of time I've dedicated over about a year of research, but, you know. Bloodborne IS tempting :p

Would this be as an upgrade then? And are you sure it's good to stick with the same motherboard and case? (The case is a weird 3rd party galaxy case).

Then there's the obvious, framerate... 60 FPS do work with some titles on the PS4, though definitely not all of them, which is where a PC would be preferred instead.

I can't speak to the case, or if it will suit your needs. A decent mid-tower case is £40 --- that's £40 that comes out of your video card budget.

And, that's the point. Your plan is to spend £300 - £400 on a gaming build and NOT upgrade your video card? Your most important gaming component? Do you see the problem, there?

And, you don't have to worry about your OS.

Okay, so I came up with this for £398:

Fractal Design Define R4
MSI A88XM Gaming FM2+
AMD Athlon X4 860k
EVGA Geforce GTX 960 SSC 4GB
HyperX Fury Black 8GB (4x2)
Seasonic M12ii 500w

Also would the GPU be bottlenecked?...

Nope, all my close friends have a PC.

Well that sucks. I suggest picking up a copy of this book.

On a more serious note, $400+ is a lot to drop for just a few exclusive games. Personally I enjoy playing games with other people more than solo, but your desires may be different.

Will this help with my dilemma? xD
Also I don't know what you're thinking, but I'm not considering a PC because my peers have one, hahahah.

Hello,

The PS4 will last a lot longer, and you'll have more games in the long run, unless you spend a lot on the PC. Also, a GTX 750 Ti isn't going to last you more than 2-3 years, perhaps less seeing as in just a few years graphics requirements doubled. If the PS4 is going to last as long as the PS3 did, then 9 (6 years from now) is a long time never having to worry or have to ask the question "Can I run it?". Nobody can make this decision for you, you are the one that's going to use it, not any of us. I understand that it's a difficult decision to make. I own the PS, and XOne, and I've gotten free games for around 1000 USD, perhaps a bit more, perhaps a bit less, however, what's important is that in 2~ or so years, current todays big titles are very likely going to be free downloads on the PS4. It only took Tomb Raider, Black Flag, among others, 2 years to be free downloads, but none the less. I'm just trying to give you an idea of what to expect, not necessarily what you should buy. You can use a controller with the PC, and playing with mods and controller on PC is really something else the PS4 don't offer (yet).

Lol there already working on the PS5 as we speak so I think a lot of all this is about money and platform and move you from one to the other and have to buy a lot of the games all over you like or have many different PS sitting around same as the XBONE at least MS made some of the games for The 360 work with the XBONE but Its just a matter to what you want for gaming ... I have almost always been a PC gamer with the exception of the sega and first Ntindo systems....

Source for PS5 in the making?

And regarding games, they run and look better on the PS4 than the PS3, if they are graphics remakes like Tomb Raider for instance. Which you didn't have to pay for, it was free.

Consoles are incredibly less powerful than a PC can be, but by no means obsolete.

Yeah, but really all I needed to know which system was going to be more worth while for me (I know the choice is completely up to me), I mean my current PC runs stuff like Dark Souls 2, Dishonored and all other indie games just fine. But an upgrade would have been nice since I wanted to play stuff like MGS V, Fallout 4 and all other newer games aswell as some exclusives.

But for games that I REALLY want to get, they are mainly Bloodborne, Final Fantasy 7 remake, The Last Guardian, Witcher 3 (even though it's multi-plat), Dark Souls 3 (multi-plat), and MGS V (multi-plat, also). So, really, would it be better just to hold off for a bit on a better PC until I have some real cash (say £600 - £700?) and get a PS4 with some of my desired games, or buy a moderately better system which will play a lot of my Steam library with better settings and mods?

I just don't want to feel like I've made the lesser optimal decision once I actually get either.

But if I go for the PC system build, then it would be as follows:
- Fractal Design Defien R4
- MSI A88XM FM2+ Mobo
- AMD Athlon X4 860k CPU
- EVGA GTX 960 SSC GPU
- HyperX Fury Black 8GB (4x2) RAM
- Seasonic M12ii 520W PSU
Total £397.94

PS4:
- Sony PS4 500W Jet Black (cuh-1200)
- Seagate 1TB 2.5" SSHD
- Bloodborne: GOTYE
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
- CPO DVI Cable (since I'd be using a monitor)
Total £399.18

Hello,

Very difficult to answer that question. If you don't mind framerates, PS4. I can prove that PS4 is going to be cheaper in the long run. But I can't tell you what games are going to be cheap or what games are going to be free, provided you get a PlayStation Plus membership. Sony decides what they put up for free, and it's 2 games every month.

Judging by your needs, you should buy a PS4. You want multiplats, but you also want the exclusives. To me that sounds like you want a PS4, but still have a debate to make your purchase feel like it's the right choice to make.

With that said. regarding free games, you've missed a ton of them, however. Take Rise of the Tomb Raider since that just happens to be what I'm playing now. That is going to be free for PlayStation Plus members in 1-2 years, as that seems to be about when for most of the titles after release can be downloaded for free.

Isn't the answer right infront of you? In the end, it's about what you want, and not other people's experience with either. However, I'm unbiased, I'm simply stating facts.

The only thing I see people bring up, is the graphics, and the framerate of the games. Apparently nothing else matters today. I for one, can still play Mario 64, and enjoy every second of it!

You would be surprised to see how good the graphics on the PS4 actually looks, compared to high end PC's. You can't see any of this, through a YouTube video, or any other compressed video streaming. Obviously it's up to your display, that is ultimately going to decide how much detail will be displayed on screen. Same goes for PC games, a low end monitor won't show you all the detail playing at Ultra is supposed to be able to display, which is why I'm so against TN-LCD's, but that's another story.

My point is, people forget about the games, and focus too much on the hardware, or things that believe it or not, don't matter at all. Infact, only the enthusiasts care about framerate and graphics, gameplay is always going to be number one for everyone else. With that said, when I played Battlefront at 60 FPS during the BETA, it was clearly a much better experience. I'm not defending the consoles framerate and or graphics, however. I don't agree with the developers choices when it comes to how fluid a game feels.

Like I said, nobody can make this decision for you, it's all you. ;-)

All the best!

Cheers, man. That gave me quite a lot of insight to what would seem best for me, and I agree-- the PS4 does seem to be the more obvious and more bang-for-buck choice. I mean, yeah, I agree that even I can get caught up with the hardware and graphics etc. But, it's true, what does matter are the games. What I've been seeking mostly lately is the ability to run my current games better and have the ability to mod them a bit more, so instead of going with the more mundane option it seems a lot more logical to go for a system with fresh games and more people to play with (I don't get many friends who are willing to play online with me on PC). And on the subject of Bloodborne: I am massive fan of FromSoftware games and Bloodborne is something I've been druelling over since March... yeah. More reason for me.

So maybe the answer was there all that time,
Thanks again, dude c:

PS4 it is.
