Hey guys, so here is my story. I have been saving up for a 500 dollar gaming pc, but I am not saving up well. But my uncle gave me a nice gateway computer. But it is prebuilt, and it has an APU. Is it possible to save up for parts for it? Like a new cpu and gpu and if I have to to support the new parts a new motherboard and a case.
So can I change the power supply, apu into a cpu and a gpu, and even ram? Buying a new case and motherboard is okay with me. Thanks!

Since it is 'free', you're in a good place.

But when you start talking about changing motherboard, CPU, etc.....you're talking about building a whole new PC.
Depending on what this free PC is, changing one part for better performance may trigger the requirement to change everything else.

Sure. Just make sure that there is a free SATA port on the mobo, a HDD bracket in the case and a power connector for the HDD. You may also need to buy a sata cable if you don't have one. I don't think it comes with the hdd.

Thanks guys. How much would it be for just for now, to hold me off, to get another 500 gig hard dirve or a 1tb, and if I wanted to, another amd apu.

A new 1TB drive is maybe $50.
Without further info on the specs, it is impossible to say 'how much', or 'if' you should change the CPU.

I'm not home right now, but the specs I saw on the case when I just left were amd a6 quad core apu, and 6 gig ram and a 500 gig harddrive. But for some reason only 250 gigs left on harddrive and I installed practically nothing

Find out all the specifics, and report back.
Motherboard model, PSU make/model, etc, etc, etc.

Thank you guys! I will use it for now and still save up on a new computer! :). And yes, would you recommend a cheap 1tb harddrive I could install in? I only have 250 gigs of memory left and I didn't install anything really.

1. You need to find out where all that space went. WinDirStat can help with this.
2. WD Blue drive. $52 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236339
Or the same at BestBuy if you want it today.
