So its the time of year with Black Friday and the Holidays coming around that i am in search of what to upgrade next in my system. I have come down to Either looking at getting a new MOBO and CPU or a new GPU since they both well over a few years old. I recently bought Fallout 4 and currently play on mostly high with a few settings dialed down for performance while maintaining 45-60 frames with the average around 55. So basically i am looking to upgrade for future games and for mods for fallout etc. I currently have a 660 Ti EVGA SC. I've been looking into getting a Gtx 970 and was curious the opinions on which ones have good performance/etc. My budget is roughly $350. My case can hold up to 10.5 cards without modifications.

My build:
MOBO: ASUS P8Z77-VLX
CPU: 3570k OC to 4.2Ghz
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 1600 Mhz 4GBx2
GPU: 660 Ti
SSD: Crucial M4 128GB
HDD: 1.5 TB// 1TB
CASE: CM Storm Scout
OS: Windows 10

Third generation Intel is fine if I am not mistaken. I do know someone that has third generation (I believe she has third generation anyway... I do not remember), and it does run without any issue. She does, however, have a GTX 970.

All 970s are practically the same; the only difference is having a custom cooler, altered PCB, and all that. I would go with a graphics card upgrade than a CPU/Motherboard upgrade.

If you could pitch in an extra $9, this EVGA GTX 970 is the second highest core clock out of the 970s.

The highest core clock is Zotac's GTX 970, but it is a long card and it most likely will not fit into your case - it is longer than 10.5...

I just purchased an MSI GTX 970 Gaming 100 ME. Wonderful card. Solid performance, extremely quiet (I haven't heard the fans ramp up yet), well made and NO COIL WHINE (yay!). I researched all the major brands and the consensus was MSI Gaming were one of the best GTX 970s. Unlike the Gigabyte G1 its not excessively long. Its also quieter than the EVGA ACX and has better warranty/customer service support than ASUS.
