I could also use some tips on installing Windows 7 to an empty drive in the first place, I've installed to partitions before but never a fresh drive.
So I have a brand new SSD I want to put in Laptop A, and I have a Windows 7 home premium CD, but Laptop A's DVD drive is broken. I have a USB DVD drive, but I figure it won't work with a brand new hard drive without installing a driver or something. My only idea was to use Laptop B, which has a working DVD drive, to install the operating system onto the SSD, but I wasn't sure if that hard drive would then work in Laptop A, or if doing that might jeopardise Laptop B's relationship with its original hard drive (also an SSD, if that matters). Both laptops are HPs, Laptop B is a couple years newer.
I'm sure this is a stupid question on at least a few levels, but thanks!
