I have just updated my RT-N12 D1 router to latest framework, and it has new function "- Added protection mechanism for GUI login brute-force attack for login username and password."

I notice the login gui is totally new. After I tried to randomly wrongly login 5 times, then I cannot input any more username or password, but if I open another tab in browser then I can try again.

I find out if I want to Wake-on-LAN to wake my desktop computer with this router, the only way is to login the router control page even when I am outside on street. I would need to wake up my computer at home sometimes while at work, so if I can use Wake-on-LAN instead of turning on my desktop all the time would save a lot of energy, but the problem is the security of login router control page through public internet.

I find out the latest framework may fixes brute-force attack for login but not sure how it works.

You should have an option in your bios of your laptop or computer that supports Wake up of the system .
Make sure the option is enabled in the bios in the Lan or Ethernet options.

You should then login to your router, and setup the port address that you will be using for Wan access to the laptop or tower based system with WOL enabled and of course the internal IP address of that machine connected to your router.

By the way it` Firmware function not Framework.

WOL as you know works when a port is pinged, or a set Ip of a machine is pinged.
Make sure that you also have your power scheme in windows setup right.

And as a double check that Wol is also enabled through going to windows control panel, system security, then device manager. then clicking on the advanced options tab.
And or how you wish the system to wake up and shut down after use.

Hey Shaun o
I can make the WOL part work, but it only works if I login router control panel and use the WOL function. So the risk is that I have to open the gate to login with public IP. I concern about how safe is the latest framework with ""- Added protection mechanism for GUI login brute-force attack for login username and password.""
