Hello,

After about 2 months of waiting for skylake, saving and researching parts I finally have my list of parts to build my new gaming pc, I have never built a full pc but have done jobs like installing new GPUs, PSUs and RAM and swapping cases so I think it will be fine just need a check to see whether I have good quality components.

Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

NZXT Kraken X61 106.1 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory

Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Western Digital BLACK SERIES 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Superclocked Video Card
(I went with reference because I personally love the look and if I decide to go SLI in the future the blower style card will be better for that, I will need to get a higher Wattage PSU but this is all I can afford for now)

Fractal Design Define R5 w/Window (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case

EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

I have asked alot of questions and wanted to thank the community for helping me decide on these parts!

Many Thanks,

Hi Hen_Ree,

Very good looking build!

Solid choices on all the key hardware, including PSU, which many people miss. Do note that if you plan to upgrade to two GTX 980ti's in SLI in the future you'll need a PSU like the 850w G2 in order to support them.

Nothing I would personally change, and I think you'll love the Fractal Design R5, it's an awesome case. :)

Great build. A 2Tb hard drive may be overkill, if this pc is only for gaming. I know a lot of modern games use a lot, and that 2Tb is more cost effective than 1, but if you want, just get 1Tb and get that better psu now. This is just an idea, and if you plan to do editing or photos or recording, then definitely go 2Tb, but if this is only gaming, then maybe spring for the better psu.

This is just my opinion, but I personally use a 250Gb SSD (the same you chose, it's really good) and that's it. I just uninstall games when I'm done. I am an exception, but still, I repeat, for ONLY games, 2Tb MAY be overkill. (Unless you have a gigantic game library you like keeping on hand).

Hi, thank you for your reply I also wondered whether you could help me with the fan orientation in my define r5

I was going to have the default 140mm as an exhaust, x61 with its 2 140mm in the front and reposition the default 140mm from the front to the bottom to blow cool air straight into the 2 fans on the acx cooler for my 980 ti.

Do you think this would give adequate cooling because I want to leave all the mod vents in to top if i can for the silence?

Thank you for replying

The 2 tb hdd is from my old gaming pc and I used it for OS and games and everything, so it was time for an upgrade never had an SSD before.

I could go 500gb ssd, do you think 250gb would cut it for games and OS so i can save a bit of money on an already expensive pc?

Thanks,

No need, you will be fine with 250gb. Just use it for os and your current games, and when you finish/get bored of them, you can return them to the hard drive and copy over some others. Very few games benefit from an ssd storage option, but loading times are drastically decreased (for the launcher, not online loading speeds or anything like that). Good luck with your build.
