Re-using a CPU heatsink / fan

I've just ordered an i7 6700 (non K), and am looking into what to do about cooling solutions for it.

I've got a pretty big Thermalright heatsink/fan hanging around that's on a socket 775 Core 2 Duo, and I'm wondering if this will fit on the socket 1151 board, and if so is it safe to do this?

Or would I be just better off using the cooler that comes with the CPU then buying a better one later?

Thanks

Ok, I can't find that exact model but what I have found is most of their lga 775 models work on lga 2011/1366/1155/1156/1151/1150 so I think it will work if you have all of the original mounting supplies. Try it out I guess.

It depends if the cooler will mount to say an lga 1150/1155 board. If it does it should fit your new one. Other wise use stock or get a new one. Since you are not overclocking stock should be fine.

I've finally dismantled the old computer. Unfortunately I can't identify what model heat sink it is, just that its thermalright. Anyone know a way of identifying a heat sink?

Thanks
