Hey all,

I'm in the market for a new video card. I have a couple of gift cards coming in for bestbuy (i know, best buy sucks but that was the best of all the sh*tty options) and wanted to get some advice before purchasing anything from there.

Currently I have a gtx 750 i recently switched from a gtx 470 (a friend gave me his old card) but I haven't seen any improvement over the 470.
My computer is a few years old:

Motherboard: Asus P6x58-e
CPU: i7 950 (Bloomfield) @ 3.07ghz
RAM: 24GB DDR3 triple channel 1600
Running windows 10
2x 1080p monitors.

I don't see myself getting a new monitor in the next 2 years or upgrading my PC.
I would love to play some new games, Fallout4, Witcher, Battle Front.

Please let me know what you all think.
Thanks in advance!

general rule of thumb, for each increase in the first digit a decrease in the second digit will give the same power (roughly and up to a point), I wouldn't go below the N50's with this though.

So a 470 = 560, a 560 = 650 (ish), so if you want a bump above your 750ti, this is roughly a 940 (this is where it breaks down), so a 960 or better should be a decent increase.

Alternative look at toms GPU hierarchy and pick something 2-3 levels above a 750ti. Or check your budget and see how many levels you can climb, if the answer is 1, don't bother, if its 2 think about it or wait for a while as you'll see limited benefit, if it is 3 then it's a safe decision as you'll see a benefit.

I went from a 470 to a 580 and saw some improvement, and...

Thanks for the reply

I looked up the chart and a gtx 970 is definitely doable in my budget.

Which would you recommend though?

I read a post on Reddit saying not to get the 04G-P4-3979-KB , do you think that the new 04G-P4-3979-KF would have the same issues?
I was also look at the GTX970GAMING4G.

I'd like to get something that's not crazy loud like my old 470.
