Upgrading CPU/GPU, within a $500 price range. UPDATED motherboard.

So at the moment i'm looking to upgrade my PC. I have been doing a lot of research but haven't found success. Here are my Spec's *Note that i'm a budget PC gamer -
CPU Pentium G3240 @ 3.10GHz
Video Card AMD Radeon R7 200 Series
Memory 8.1 GB
Operating System Microsoft Windows 10 (build 10240), 64-bit
Motherboard- msi h81m-e33
PSU- 350 watt
PS - please recommend Intel CPU and Nividia GPU

You didnt list your motherbd so I couldn't check for support info but
e3-1231v3 is about $250 (Xeon processor, i7 at i5 price)
Gtx960 4gb is about $220

Leaving you $30 to get a cpu cooler.

No official support for the 1231 but it will run the e3-1230v3 which is only 0.1Ghz slower. Still has 4 cores/8 threads

edit - keep in mind that Xeons don't allow CPU overclocking. If you want to overclock then you need the i5-4670k which is about the same price.

Also, Radeon R7 200 series compasses many wide ranging GPUs. You should either pair CPU with exact GPU or vice versa.
