Question on upgrading with compatible ram

I am upgrading to 16gb ram. When I built my computer a few years ago I installed http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220705 Patriot Intel Limited Edition ram. My question is would I have to buy the same exact ram or can I buy the cheaper version http://www.amazon.com/Patriot-1600MHz-Desktop-Heatsink-PV38G160C9KBL/dp/B00E5Z3L8Y Patriot Viper 3?

If you want to guarantee compatibility buy a 16gb set and replace the 8gb set. Mixing ram can have problems and doesn't always work even when using identical ram.
