NVIDIA 780 Ti graphics card... should it be able to handle this??

I tested out an EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti Superclocked w/ EVGA ACX Cooler 03G-P4-2884-KR graphics card today with a 4K TV and Battlefield 4 and it crashed the computer (computer restarted). Playing Battlefield 4 with the same graphics card works just fine on a 1080p monitor at 1920 x 1080 and 60Hz.

On the 4K TV at a resolution of 4096 x 2160 and 59.4Hz (BF4 preset choice), the game crashes.

Please keep in mind that the in-game BF4 graphics quality is all set to medium, with anti-aliasing post/deferred and ambient occlusion set to off.

Did I buy a dud? Shouldn't this graphics card be able to handle high or ultra graphics settings, and be able to handle 4K resolution? Or, did I crash because the Hz must be set to the native refresh rate (mine is 120Hz)? I can try that but I'm unsure that will do anything except to crash my PC again.

Please let me know where to find info on the maximum resolution and refresh rate I can set BF4 at with my graphics card!

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Do you know what the maximum resolution I could have the game at using the 780 Ti? I think it's 2650 x 1440 and 120Hz - every time I try changing something the game will crash, so I want to ask first in case someone already knows.

And, I have the MSI Afterburner program. Should I decrease the Memory Clock to keep the game from crashing?

Ok, my computer crashed at my last game and and the computer won't start up at all.

I did smell something burning. I checked and everything's plugged in.

Do you think that my PSU is fried? My motherboard still lights up when the plug is in, so maybe there's just enough power for that?

Or, do you think the CPU is not getting enough cooling? I'm not sure what the most likely culprit is.

Please help!

Sorry I took a while to respond there. I'm on my TV's browser which is a little difficult to navigate as everything you type erases if you switch tabs and don't go back to it soon enough. So, I had to look up all of my part information manually.

I have a DVI-I connected to my graphics card, to an HDMI connected to my TV.

- Graphics Card > DVI-I to HDMI > Samsung TV

- Samsung UN48JU7500 4K TV
- Mushkin 16gb ram
- Windows 10
- EVGA 780 ti
- MSI Z7AA GD55 Motherboard
- Intel i7-3770K LGA1155 CPU
- Apevia WIN-500PS 500 Watt PSU
- Corsair liquid cooling for CPU

Other hardware and devices connected to this PC:

- Samsung DVD Drive SH-224BB
- Samsung 128gb SSD MZ-7PC128B/WW R
- Western Digital WD6400AAKS HDD
- Thermaltake mechanical wired keyboard KB-MEG005
- Logitech M-BS81A wire mouse
- Sennheiser PC-320 headset
- Samsung ML2070W Printer
- Yamaha AV Receiver
- Athena Home Theater System

Thanks for that information! I've been searching for a PSU since the fan got loud twice and I had to oil the fan. It's several years old, too.

Do you think that I should get this PSU: EVGA SuperNova 750 G2 Watt

And, would I simply need to get a display port to HDMI adapater?

Before you started testing it out on the TV you should've asked, try to boot the computer again, if the problem persists then its probably the PSU as RobCrezz stated above.

You can get one in any electronics store, I'm currently using one, bought it at Maplin in the UK. If you're living in the US probably Walmart would be the place to look.

I'm unable to reboot the computer. Nothing powers on.

When the power cord is plugged in, the motherboard light turns on, but the PC itself doesn't power on.

I think the game fried most of the PSU!

Do you have a spare PSU laying around by any chance?

Ok, it's definitely the old 500 Watt power supply unit, which used a little testing device to show that it failed. I went to a mom and pop's (literally) computer store and their customer service was impeccable. They let me stay there for about 2.5+ hours while I tested the 750 watt PSU, and get this, they let me plug in the brand new unit still in its shrink wrap before I even purchased it! The woman who helped me was super lax and she taught me a lot, and even helped me to simplify all of the cables I had running through my setup. I also got a DisplayPort adapter for my DVI-I so now I can play 4K at 60Hz. :)

The woman told me she was ready to retire and that's really too bad, as she's the only computer store around, save for... Best Buy. Now I will try the game at ultra settings *cross my fingers*!

The 780ti I don't think would be good at 4K on ultra, at 1080p it's probably fine but if you wanted 4k I would've gotten an r9 390 or a gtx 970 and even then only the r9 390 would be good for 4K because of the 8gbs of vram

Ok, I just tried playing BF4 and the 4K resolution isn't even available anymore... In fact, nothing above 1920 x 1080 is...

Is it because I'm using a DisplayPort (M in graphics card) to F DVI adapter (DVI to HDMI in TV)?

It showed those higher resolution options before when I plugged it into the DVI port with my old PSU.

Everything else is connected the same internally as before.

I just checked my NVIDIA control panel, and it says that my PC and TV are connected by DVI and not DisplayPort 1.2! I don't get why the adapter wouldn't work as a DisplayPort, since the adapter is connected to the DisplayPort on the graphics card. Is it downsizing everything to DVI quality outputs, even though the other end is connected to the TV as HDMI? Here's my setup again:

TV = HDMI to DVI-I cable > DVI-I to DisplayPort 1.2 adapter = PC

Do you mean the HDMI 2.0 on the graphics card? I checked the website and it said that the DisplayPort is capable of 4K... isn't the DisplayPort more advanced/newer than the HDMI 2.0? The DisplayPort 1.2 should be able to do everything that the HDMI 2.0 can do, right? And, isn't it HDMI 1.4 on the 780 Ti?

When I plug the cable back into the DVI port of the graphics card, it goes to 4K...!?

Ok, I just played 4K with medium settings and the computer did not crash! It wasn't laggy and everything was smooth. A solid PSU makes a HUGE difference in performance!

I'll try out HDMI to HDMI now. I'm guess it'll be better than the DVI, but since the DisplayPort didn't work... I'll just have to see what happens.

Ok, when I use the HDMI to HDMI, it says that the native is the 3840 x 2160 resolution and not the 4096 x 2160. Whereas, the DVI to HDMI's native is 4096 x 2160. I'm looking at the NVIDIA control panel for the resolution setting and that's where it says which resolution is native. Should I keep the resolution at 3840 x 2160 using the HDMI, or should go with the DVI's slightly higher resolution? Any moderate to major tradeoffs to consider?
