8GB or 16GB

So I am going to be ordering my gaming pc wednesday, and I would like to save as much money as possible so I can get games with it. I was wondering if I should just get 8GB of DDR4-2666 RAM and then upgrade it to Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM? This would svae me $100 up front but is it worth doing

I'd just get the 16gb now since you know you'll upgrade anyways. No need to waste money. But for gaming, you'll never ever need to buy 32gb RAM. It's just a waste. 16gb is wayyy more than enough.

Gaming? 8 GB is more than enough. The maximum a game uses is 5 GB. Usually it is around 2 GB ~ 4 GB of usage which leaves you 50% of the RAM for others.

If you have specific reasons for 16 GB, go for it. When i archieve a lot of files i do use up to 16 GB but when i'm playing games with photoshop and chrome tabs on it never goes above 6 GB.

8gb is enough for most people. However, given how much cheaper RAM is nowadays, and when we think about upgrading it in the future, I think its better to go for 2x8gb assuming this is not a budget issue and severly takes away elsewhere. If you are willing to go 16gb RAM then here is a good choice:

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws 4 series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($74.99 @ Newegg)

If 8gb is adequate, this is good RAM at good price:

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws 4 series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($49.99 @ Newegg)

In 2 months im gonna upgrade from 8GB to 16GB or 32GB of corsair dominator platinum. I just want to trimm $100 off my build now to put it towards games and such
