Hello,

The WinXP has a registered key named something like 123-OEM-456....
So at first it looks legal, but the tower has some stickies like Intel Core inside.. and one for Windows Vista
So perhaps the PC originally had Vista then someone put a XP on it - probably illegal then

Keys could contains "OEM" but still be illegal ?
How could i determine whether my OS is legal ?

Thanks :)

I'm assuming your asking because your reinstalling the OS on the same machine the OEM copy was loaded on...

A lot of people hated Vista and downgraded to XP even if it meant buying the OS. OEM in the key means they bought (provided its legal) the copy as an OEM copy which is perfectly legal, just cheaper than a retail copy and with more restrictions. Give it a go, put in the key and it'll likely prompt you to call Microsoft as part of the activation process. You'll go through some voice prompts and likely be done with it. Worst case it doesn't work and you have to look at buying a different OS, which isn't too horrible considering how out of date XP is at this point.
