I recently had a power surge in my home that killed my PSU while I was out. I don't know for certain what caused it to die but it did and it's been tested to be dead.
Now everything is in warranty - so I might be able to get them to RMA whatever may be damaged. I went with well known, high end components so I should be okay.
My question is - what are the most likely parts to check once my new PSU arrives? I used an older 500w PSU my friend lent me to test the motherboard (only the MB, Ram, cpu were installed. it seems to post and the LED light turns on). Also if my HDD is damaged would I be able to just replace it and reinstall windows 8.1 I purchased from Newegg?
My system is as follows -
CPU - AMD 8350 Black edition - not overclocked, yet.
GPU - XFX R9 290x 4GB
Mobo - MSI 990FXA Gaming
Ram - G.Skill Ripjaw X 1600 DDR3 16GB (4x4)
PSU - Seasonic M12II 850w Fully Modular
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 2 or 3TB 7200 RPM (I forget how many TB it is again)
Case - Coolermaster HAF X
OS - Windows 10 64 bit (Upgraded online from windows 8.1 bought through newegg)
and a couple optical drives such as bluray and dvd, I had a H80i GT enclosed water cooler too.
The new PSU I purchased was a Corsair RMx 850w Gold cert fully modular unit on sale from newegg. The Seasonic unit is my second one and I honestly don't trust this psu anymore - seasonic make awesome units but the first arrived DOA and the second one died on me a year later. It still is under warranty and I am already sending it in for RMA I just wont use it in my unit.
