I am thinking of getting a poweline adapter for my new PC. At the moment my laptop's wifi is brilliant and really fast. If I use a powerline adapter can I keep that speed or will it become slower?

It's really impossible to tell without trying it on your particular power lines. Power line connectivity has been compared to hearing a pin hit the floor during a symphony due to the noise on the lines. A lot of that has to do with what is connected to the power lines but there is also the fact that the power lines are long stretches of metal wire running through the house that to some degree act like antennas for electronic noise sources both inside and outside the home. Because of those factors their speeds can also vary at different times according to what is happening in the environment, how close you are to radio stations, etc.

Depends on which model you buy and the speed rating (get 1200 Mbps+), as stated above there are lots of factors but from my experience in four different houses power line adapters usually preforms as well as wifi (and always more consistently).

Always look up parts on newegg.com, check the reviews, they have a lot more reviews on components than most sites, that one is ok. Check your internet speed. This one is rated 500mbps (62.5MBps) be aware the rated speed in these things are 3x - 6x times higher than the typical speed youll get, 500mbps usually get 100-200mbps. This is why i recommended a 1200Mbps model.
