Hello. So recently I ordered a 4 GB stick of Kingston DDR3 1600MHZ for my desktop, and half of it is in hardware reserved according to resource monitor. I previously had 6 GB's of ram and it worked just fine with no issue. Ive went into system configuration and unchecked maximum memory, but still did not change anything.

Just a few minutes ago, I put only the new Kingston memory in my desktop, and it started beeping. This stick hasn't been used and is brand new. How can i fix this, Or can someone tell me if i just ordered a bad stick of RAM. My BIOS also shows me having 8 GB total.

My specs:
AMD 3820 APU QUAD CORE
GEFORCE GT 730 2 GB DDR5
2 TB HDD
WINDOWS 10 HOME 64BIT

Not sure what mobo you have, but if you have a memok button on it, use it. It will reset your ram frequencies to the "lowest" compatibility. To use it, with your pc powered on, just hold it down for a few seconds and it should reboot. If you reboot and see 8gb of ram, then it was probably incompatible.

My Desktop is an HP PAVILION P7 1220, I probably should have mentioned that. I've actually never heard of this before, but i don't think I have that button that you're mentioning.

I just reset the BIOS(removed the CMOS battery and put it back in), unfortunately It did not work.

I doubt the new stick is bad, but it's possible. The most likely cause it incompatibility with the other ram. If clearing the bios don't work for you, then you may have to buy an 8gb ram kit of 2x4 sticks to fix it. Sometimes mixing ram you can get lucky and have everything run fine, sometimes not so much. Have you tried running the new stick by itself to test to see if it is bad?

It may be bad then. It happens occasionally. If you replace it, look at a 2x4gb kit instead of the mixing because as SR-71 said, "Sometimes even identical modules purchased separately , are incompatible." Good thing is an 8gb kit of DDR3 isn't too terribly expensive. Other than that, I'm all out of ideas. Hope you can figure it out.

Hello... try cleaning the Ram gold contacts with some Rubbing alcohol... and make sure you have a good lock position in your MB... there are a lot of small electrical connection there... re-inserting them a few times can get them to work... Other wise RMA the faulty ones.
Try using the Kingston memory configurator APP to verify you got the right models for your MB.

I cleaned the stick of ram thoroughly, and I did check Kingston memory configurator to see if my desktop model is on there, which it is. I'm still only getting 3.99 usable

Hello... 1) Try a MB battery removal Bio reset...
2) what are the MB Bio's settings posted between your OLD set and the New sets? can you post digital pictures of the Bio's screen memory information between the two?
3) Sometimes you get a bad part in the mail... **It happens. RMA

My BIOS is extremely limited... I hardly have any control on what I can do in there. It's an HP BIOS that's been updated recently, so there isn't much to see. But my BIOS does see both sticks of ram.
