Greetings, I am having problem unlocking this CPU.I was using it on a Gigabyte board with unlocked third core(fourth is unstable in Windows but it POSTs with it).Now when I put it in a MSI board with same chipset.I went with standard procedure of turning on "CPU Unlock","Core Unlock" and Advanced Clock Calibration.Upon applying settings,PC would not post and I had to take take out battery. Upon another try,I tried to unlock just the third core by setting "Core Unlock" to manual as I did on Gigabyte board. But there were only two cores listed instead(on Gigabyte board, there are four). What am I doing wrong?

By some rule of thumb, when unlocking cores you have to raise CPU/VID voltage too. In may cases, even previously unstable unlock will work much better.
Those cores are turned off i the factory for a reason of them being partially defective and unlocking is a lottery anyway. Only 555 BEs were made intentionally with cores turned off to sell overproduction out at same time when full fledged PH II X4s were released.

I know all of that, but as I stated earlier,I know there is one core defective.I have managed to unlock it to Phenom II X3 with no problem at Gigabyte motherboard, now that CPU is in MSI motherboard and if I put all what I did on Gigabyte one,it won't post. Both motherboards have same SB710 chipset, Also my other problem as stated earlier is that MSI board recognizes just two cores when I turn on "Core Unlock" so I have to turn on advanced clock calibration, but after I turn it on,PC won't post, while on Gigabyte board I can choose what cores should be active(there are four of them listed) after turning on core unlocking.

Yes I did, even above 1.4V.It was stable at around 1.3-1.35 on GB mobo in all games and under Prime95.Here it won't even post.On GB mobo if I do the whole procedure I do on MSI mobo,it will post even with fourth unstable core but will crash while loading Windows. Here it won't even post so I think it is not a problem with defective core. Also there is another thing I noticed, and with it I can rule out that cores are causing PC not to post. Even if I turn off "Core unlock" on MSI mobo, and turn on Advanced clock calbration with just two cores,it also won't post. I would not touch ACC if it wasn't needed but it is required to unlock third core. On GB mobo it was turned on and set to auto, like here. Also there is no compatibility issues because both mobos have same chipset.

I will ask my friend about bios version because mobo is his now and then I will tell you does it have the latest bios.As for the bios friendliness, both mobos have almost same bios layout, both have almost the same features but with a bit different names(on MSI,overclocking/unlocking menu is called "Cell menu" while on Gigabyte it is something like "Inteligent Tweaker menu"),but I could even say that GB mobo lacks some features MSI one has, like booting from NTFS removable drive and setting manual CPU fan speed.

Don't know about yours but my GA-990XA-UD3 has those things too.
In the left, bottom corner of MB, you'll have the version number and simply checking at Gigabyte can tell you which is last BIOS or which one you have if it was not changed later. At the BOOT time it's also displayed on the screen and CPU-Z or such a program can tell you which one is installed now.
