Mac/PC network via ethernet or...

Hi,
I have an imac (2010) DAW and a pc slave that need to be on a network; they run audio stuff so low latency is important. In my previous living arrangement the mac had wireless and i connected the two computers via ethernet, worked fine. In the new place there's no wifi and they ran an ethernet cable through the wall for hard-wired internet. It will be nice to have the more secure connection but how do I connect the mac to the pc now? Should I run a second ethernet through the wall to the router (might be difficult), or use a splitter box? Or is there another cable that will work in this situation?

It isn't necessary that both computers have internet connection. But the mouse-sharing program, Synergy, uses IP addresses, so I'm assuming they both need to be connected to the router in some way.

thanks,
Ian

I dunno exactly what do you mean by this, but I have a feeling you don't understand exactly how a switch works.
Everything runs on IP, including WIFI, that's no issue. Audio is not a concern these days, whether ethernet or WIFI, that's another no issue.

If you want to connect everything ethernet, is very amazingly simple:

router ------> switch (with as many ports as devices you own) -----> one port/cable to each device.

That's it.

Great. I guess I was curious if there was another work-around since the switch will divide the bandwidth, but it will probably be fine for my purposes.
