Hello everyone,

Last week I got an automatic windows 7 update installed on my computer (17 new updates). After this, I couldn't log in to my computer. The windows page loads and it shows both users' profile icons on the screen, but when I click on either one, it seems like it starts running the function for a few seconds, after which it just goes back to the same screen time and time again. I never get to see the box to write my passwords. I tried to reboot F8 and do a system restore and a system repair without avail. I also run the command line regedit and realized that both user profiles are missing from here:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList,

Could anyone be so kind to give any suggestions as to what could I do next, please?

Hi BadActor, thanks for the help, I did try to boot into safe mode but it keeps doing the loop back to the screen with the users' icons...

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I did try that too, and it ended with the same result.
Thanks though

Well, it looks like the User Profile Service isn't running. I'm not skilled enough to tell you how to correct this from outside the OS. If it were me, I would just remove the drive and put it in another computer or use a SATA to USB adapter and copy and save all my data, then format the disk, reinstall it and reload Windows. A PITA I know, but maybe the most expedient. Hopefully, MS will have fixed whatever update that corrupted your installation before you get to that point again.

Hi scout_03, thanks for the reply.
TBH I am not a computer savy, so I wouln't know how to proceed to do the cmos repair, although I don't think that it's a battery problem, but as I said, don't really know, could you please elaborate a bit more on how that could be of any help?

Hi, I've been looking around in other online threads and I got something interesting about a recent windows update 7 (KB3097877), so I'll explore that first, since it seems a bit more specific and on target. What you suggested looks good but time consuming and a bit risky considered my lack of expertise, although I'll keep it on reserve. Thanks a lot though, I'll keep you posted on how it goes. I would like to show you the link where I got this info from, but I doubt I could post it here.

Thanks for following my case all along, as you said I had to use Method 3.
