My Mother has a Ipad (I personally hate them) and I watched her click the "Ok" button for "you just won a trip to Burmuda" I was a half second too late in telling her she done goofed.

I was trying to install HP printer drivers today to the Icrap-pad. After much frustration I called HP support and the support guy told me the Ipad was infected. SUPRISE!
He also told me it would cost 100 flipping dollars to fix whatever the issue is. Baseline 100 dollars. SMH Apple.
I'm curious if I can diagnose this problem myself or do I have to send apple my money to do something really simple?

Solution
Just in case you have not erased yet, an iPad cannot get infected with viruses from websites... Only from applications. Why would you even ask HP??? Of course their going to say "you have a virus". They don't make iPads. And if they are so certain, it is their App that has infected your iPad

Basically, I would not worry about it

I guess that's true. It's also her only hope.

No backup or restore, no fail safe. I guess she's just going to learn the hard way.
Thanks.

Yes, I have. It resolved the issues of being stuck on the safari page without a exit. But I still think there's malaware lingering. That's why I want to know if there are diagnostic tools for crapple products.

In Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance Pirsig reproduces a great quote from a Japanese technical manual. I forget the exact words, but the essence of it is "Before working on this mororcycle you must be in a good frame of mind". And it's true of computers too. Approach then with the view that they are a load of rubbish, and refer to them with childish names, and you are likely to find it a self-fulfilling prophecy. Also you will find that the people most likely to know the answer to your questions won't bother with you.

If you have no respect for the equipment then find someone who does to repair it. They will make a good job of it where you will fail.

Genius, it has been a long long time since I read it, this has made my day.

A brilliant piece of philosophy.
