Multiple network devices require wired connection, best hardware choice?

Hi there,

Basically, I have a PC, laptop, PS3 in my room and I would like them all hooked up via a wired connection to my router, which is a floor below. These won't necessarily be used simultaneously but at times they no doubt will and I don't want to fiddle about with plugging and unplugging wires.

I have researched a ethernet switch which seems to fit the bill. I imagine I run a single ethernet from the port out of my router, up to my room and then split the signal to each devices (Is there any comprimise with internet speeds being split through 1 original ethernet cable?

They come in different speeds also 10/100, 10/100/1000. I can received up to 152mb bandwidth from my ISP so i imagine the 10/100 won't be enough?

There are also ethernet switches which send the internet signal through the mains, powerline adapters I believe they're called. What are people experience with these?

I'm looking to do it as cheaply as possible and I dont mind running a cable through my house.

It's a small domestic setup

Thanks guys, let me know what you think please

Solution
any 5-8 port "Green" switch will work for what you need...

Get the Gigabit, of course, and there are quite a few under $100... Look on NewEgg

If you can run a Cat5e cable from the router to your room, that is by far the best solution.
Any 5 or 8 port 10/100/1000 switch will work perfectly.

Thanks guys!

I'm looking at this, this seems like it will do the trick? (http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-LINK-TL-SG1005D-V6-Ethernet-Unmanaged/dp/B00ZOOJXEG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1447722835&sr=8-5&keywords=green+ethernet+switch)

Would you say for my means I only need cat5e rather than 6? I'd prefer to spend less money to be honest haha, so If the cat5e will suffice for 152mb bandwidth that'll be cushty :)

Thanks

Yes, that particular switch will work, and yes, Cat5e is fine. No performance difference compared to Cat6 or other.
