Hello All,

I am planning on building a PC with an ASrock Z97 Extreme6 motherboard. I was looking through the memory options on PC Part Picker, and I spotted a nice deal on G.Skill Ripjaws Z DDR3-2400 MHz CAS 10 memory (only $4 more than the Ripjaws X 1866 MHz CAS 9).
When I checked the G.Skill website for the QVL, it listed only X87 ASrock motherboards. I was wondering if anyone was running this kit in a Z97 rig, and if they had any issues running them at 2400 MHz. (The Extreme6 is capable of operating at 2400), or overclocking them.

I think I read somewhere that the Z line was designed with a different chipset in mind.

I realize that the performance gain of 2400 MHz ram over 1866 will be negligible, however this is my first time building a PC and I am very excited to learn how to overclock and tighten the timings, simply to have that as a skill. I also have read that the Trident Z series is much better at overclocking and for tighter timings, however with the holidays coming up, I am buying a cheaper kit now, and I will upgrade to a 32GB Trident kit when my funds permit.

Thanks!

They should be fine, no problem. The Z series came out aimed at the X97 quad channel mobos as a companion to the Ripjaws X which were targeted to the dual channel 1155 platform. The secondary timings may favor the aimed target a bit but both series work well on either platform
