Hi all,

My parents have an unused HP Pavilion Elite m9340f lying around their basement and I was looking to turn it into a media server to run as a plex server.

The specs:
Motherboard: Asus IPIBL-LB(Benicia) microATX
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700
Memory: 6 GB DDR2 PC2-6400
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 9500 GS
HDD: 750 GB
Power Supply: 350W

Now I just had a few questioning before I start:
1) The 9500 runs really hot and loud. I have a HD 5770 that I'm looking to put into it however I am a bit worried about the power supply. Will it be able to handle the 5770?

2) The ram has caused issues in the past including crashes. Can anyone recommend a good replacement?

3) Are there any other upgrades recommended?

Btw this is my first post here so sorry if I broke any forum rules. Thanks for your time!

Support tab says:

  • ■ PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard
450 Watt or greater power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and two 6-pin connectors for AMD CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)
    ■ Certified power supplies are recommended. Refer to http://support.amd.com/en-us/recommended/power-supplies for a list of Certified products

For RAM, check any RAM vendor's site for a compatibility list.

use the hard drive and case. it be cheaper for you to pick up a ddr3 ram and a new mb and entry level haswell 3258. the older ddr2 ram if it still made is going to cost you a lot and the system going ot be slow for a server. the newer amd apu would be a lot better for a server then the old mb.
