Looking to upgrade the feeble CPU on my gaming rig.

I can get a 3770K + Motherboard for probably $300-$350 from a co-worker who is leaving for the military and looking to sell his computer or part it out in about a month. His PC cost him about $1,800 for someone to build it (although I think he got ripped off by about $500). Motherboard looks nice, capable of Crossfiring, unlike my current AMD build and the i5 builds.

On the other hand I was looking to get a 4690K or a 6600K around Black Friday on Newegg or Amazon. Right now the 6600K is $270 on Newegg or $254 on Amazon. The 4690K is $240 on Newegg and Amazon.
Off Amazon I can get 6600K+Motherboard ($86) for $340. Or the 4690K+Motherboard for $340 or less.
Regardless of the build, I plan to keep my DDR3 RAM, so the DDR4 with the 6600K is not a factor. I don't have any plans to crossfire, but it wouldn't hurt to have the option.
I have an Evo 212 for any overclocking on either one.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if both of these were discounted a bit more Black Friday/Cyber Monday.
Leaning more towards the 6600K, but wasn't too sure.

I'll ask him if he will do $250 or so. My only real concern was that the CPU came out about 3 years ago. I just didn't think I could get it for that cheap. I couldn't find any info on his board, but it looked a lot nicer than some $60 board.

As nice as this would be, I don't have $450 to drop on this, and it would be pretty overkill for my 280x.

Performance wise the CPU holds up today especially in gaming http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/551?vs=1543
Those CPU's are selling for around $200 Today on ebay so $300 would be a absolute max to pay for the combo. Remember it will be void of warranty.

Well, I asked him if he would take $270 for the CPU+Board+Heatsink. He decided he will hold on to it and see if he can get it shipped to where he is going for military training. Didn't think he would be able to get enough money parting out the rest. (entire thing was only worth at best about $1,000 and he paid $1,800 for it)

I guess going for the 4690k would be the best bet of the i5s as to not have to worry about the RAM hassle.

No, I am aware of that. Because of this I will go with the 4690k over the 6600k.

Also, any motherboard suggestions? Trying to keep the total under $350. So a $150 board is probably not a viable option.
