GTX780 display shuts down AFTER gaming not during...

hello first time poster here i have a GTX780 the second card after 2 RMAs and still the same issue... what happens is i can game hard at full high and ultra settings my benq monitor can hit 144hz for 10 minutes or 6 hours straight with no issues(in game) the second i close the game or even just alt tab out of it after about 15-30 seconds the display turns on and the gpu fans rev up... gpu-z states 60-64 degrees celcius and gpu usage os between 45-70% idk what to do anymore please halp!!!

mobo- msi z87-gd65
cpu- i5-4670k
cpu cooler- corsair h80i
gpu-msi gtx780 tf oc edition
psu-evga nex750b
ram- kingston hyper x 2x4gb

and ima a noob to specs lol

Pulled this answer from a post very similar to yours. This was selected as the solution.

"from what i can see soon you exit games the drivers crash and due to monitor going crazy due to driver crash you cannot see the error, use driversweeper and remove all the drivers related to nvidia , if it does it... then possibility a GPU issue...if monitor is ok... but it seems more of a driver problem more then anything specialy if you able game with no problems also you could also re-install windows"

Before you re-install windows try the former of the ideas as well as what other people suggest.

but ive also reinstalled windows and upgraded to 10 then back down to 8.1 and still and i did a complete removal of the nivida drivers then fresh install to no avail also even installed the drivers with out using the nvida experience app and both with and with out that app its the same

This is with multiple games? Or just one?

all games from cs:go to league of legends all the way up to Diablo 3, BF4, COD AW, and blade and soul and it has never crashed or shut down or even stuttered mid game its only after about 15-30 seconds alt tabing out or shutting down the game

im not to confident in messing with the bios on the card as i cant afford to brick the card as if i send it in to rma again as they instructed i do if the issue persists and im sure they can tell if it has been messed with right? so far both RMAs have only had about a week long turnaround and theyve stated that if this card doesnt work that they will look into other avenues(i hope a refund or different card of the same tier)

the first one(the one i purchased) worked beautifully for almost a bit over one year then just stopped being detected at all by my pc fans running and all. I sent it in via rma then after a week they sent me a refurbished card of the same then this issue occured so i sent the refurb card back now i just recieved yet another refurb card and still the same issue. i thought they sent me the same card but the last four of the s/n are different...

card 1 bricked quaified for RMA
receive card 2
card 2 shuts down after game so i RMA again
receive card 3
card 3 shuts down after gaming now searching for answers

Try clearing CMOS. I mean since the first and second don't have the same issue, it makes me think card. But the fact that the second and third are the same make me think system. Wait to see if someone else knows what to do, if not RMA I guess.

cleared already and thank you very much for your input and no one at msi knows why this is happening either... im super bummed im n the closed beta for blade a soul and cant even play that or MGSV or any of my top tier games any more...

Damn, that sucks. What GPU did you have before this one(if you had one). Do you still have it? See if it happens on there. If not you can confirm it's GPU issue. Or if it is a system issue, it's not with all cards.

this is my very first build and im sure i did every thing right and followed directions perfectly. it ran like a dream for a lil over a year and now the only issue is this...

i have and with the card out the games work fine(played for hours with LoL and DOTA2) o issues at all besides god awful graphics and slow frame rates which is why i got the GTX780 for its awesomeness and price compared to the titan but now im starting to regret getting it...
